    Hi Annie,
What a great article on breastfeeding and contraception. My son is 13 months old and I am ecologically breastfeeding and my periods havn’t returned. I didn’t know what ecological breastfeeding was until your article and the Lunarium website is really interesting. Thanks for opening my eyes and educating me on new and interesting facts. I will be continuing to breastfeed as long as my little boy wants………………………..we love it!!
    Keep up the great information,
    Cheers,

    Hi Loretta,
Jodi here! This was one of my articles :)

I breastfeed my son until his third birthday and am very glad that I did. While it may have played havoc with my hormones, it has set him up with a vital and healthy immune system (he rarely gets sick) and I’m glad that I was able to give him this wonderful gift. So I encourage you - to keep right on breastfeeding.

I’d never heard of ecological breastfeeding either - until I was researching for this article. I knew of exclusive breastfeeding (which we did) and natural/conscious parenting practises such as co-sleeping, but had no idea that the two of them combined gave you ‘ecological breastfeeding’ and that this maximises the contraceptive effect of breastfeeding - makes sense really. We’d done it all out of instinct.

In retrospect my cycles returned a week after my son’s birthday which was after about 6 weeks of him moving out of our bed and onto a little ‘nest’ on the floor by the big bed. I believe that’s what caused the shift in my hormones and the return of my cycles.

Thanks for commenting and your feedback.
